Since July 17th, WhatsApp users in Pakistan have faced issues with sending and receiving media files. People can still make voice calls and send text messages, but when it comes to photos, videos, or other media, they are unable to send or receive them through mobile networks like Zong, Jazz, and Telenor.
The problem started on Ashura Day, and it hasn’t been fixed yet. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) hasn’t released any statement about this issue. Similarly, the telecom companies are also silent. This situation has left many internet users frustrated and worried.
Some people believe this restriction was put in place by the government for security reasons during Ashura. However, it’s unclear why the problem persists or if there are ongoing security concerns.
Interestingly, people using DSL or other wired internet connections are not affected by this issue. They can send and receive media on WhatsApp without any problems.
Additionally, Pakistan recently announced the installation of a firewall to control what users can post on the internet. This new firewall might be related to the WhatsApp media issue, as it could be part of the government’s effort to monitor and restrict online content.
As of now, there is no clear explanation or solution from the authorities or the telecom companies. Users are hoping for a quick resolution so they can resume using WhatsApp normally.
